Biomechanical Analysis Project

Kin 322: Biomechanics

Skill area: Biomechanics

Assignment Title: Individual Project

What I Learned: From this biomechanical project, I learned how to properly evaluate a movement using both quantitative and qualitative measures. I also learned how to assist a person on performing a movement to help improve technique and also to help prevent injury. I learned the necessary components over the course of the semester and got to apply it all to a movement that I had selected.

Reflection to assignment: This assignment made me realize the variety of tools used to assess a single movement in a person. To fully understand the movement, it is important to understand all components of the movement. This project allowed me to analyze the major components of movement and how these components can be improved relative to the individual.

Relevance to profession: As a sports dietitian, it is important to understand the basic concepts of movement and how these differ from person to person. The understanding of these movements can allow a dietitian to provide a diet specific to each individual based on the activities performed. When working with athletes, it is important to understand all aspects of being an athlete including the exercise component and understanding the movements relative to each sport.
